Former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez was indicted today on two counts of first-degree murder for killing two men in Boston during 2012 who were shot to death after they allegedly met Aaron at the nightclub, Cure. Aaron is accused of murdering Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado. The two men were shot to death on July 16, 2012, while they were stopped at a traffic light by an assailant who drove up alongside them in an SUV with Rhode Island plates and opened fire on them a third man in the car was injured. Two other people inside the car fled from the scene on foot.
Aaron already faces charges in the murder of Odin L. Lloyd of Boston, who was found killed in a North Attleborough industrial park near Aaron’s home in June 2013. The relatives of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado have filed wrongful death lawsuits in Suffolk Superior Court. Each family is demanding that Aaron pay them $6 million in damages.
Aaron had played for the New England Patriots until June 2013, when he was arrested on live television in his North Attleborough home on charges related to Lloyd’s murder. Hernandez played the entire 2012-2013 season, after the two murders in the South End occurred.
