Rapper Beanie Sigel is in surgery Friday morning following a shooting in Pleasantville. Beanie Sigel who’s real name is Dwight Grant, was shot in the abdomen and the bullet exited through his back. Police arrived at the intersection of Spruce and Somerset avenues at about 9:25 am, and found the victim had been shot. He was transported to AtlanticCare Regional Medical Center’ city campus.
A man was taken into custody after police chased a car that appeared to be related to the shooting. His name has not been released pending charges. Beanie Sigel, 40, was taken to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he was undergoing surgery. His condition was not immediately available. A second man was injured at the scene, but not shot, according to police. He refused medical treatment.
He was released to a Philadelphia area halfway house 14th Aug, after serving a two-year sentence in federal prison for tax evasion. He has been on home confinement since 25th Sept, according to a spokesman for the Bureau of Prisons.
Beanie Sigel is a Philadelphia native and former protege of rap superstar Jay-Z and his records have sold more than a million copies. He previously served time in prison on weapons charges and was acquitted of attempted murder in a 2003 Philadelphia shooting. In 2006, he was shot during a robbery in Philadelphia.
