Remember the heartwarming viral story about the grandma who mistakenly sent a text message to a young man about coming to Thanksgiving dinner, and then he did for years? Well her husband has passed away from coronavirus complications.
Wanda Dench is the grandma who, back in 2016, accidentally texted teenager Jamal Hinton instead of her grandson about coming over for thanksgiving dinner. Jamal posted the texts on twitter and the story went viral.
Both Wanda and Jamal’s families actual celebrate thanksgiving together for the past 4 years.
Jamal announced on twitter yesterday that Wanda’s husband Lonnie succumbed to COVID-19.
“As some of you may have already found out tonight Lonnie did not make it… he passed away Sunday morning but Wanda told me all the love and support he was receiving put a huge smile on his face so I thank every single one of you guys for that!”
Wanda’s husband, Lonnie used to always said grace at the couple’s home before they dined with Jamal and his girlfriend Mikaela and their families. He was also the first to greet everyone and the last to say goodbye.
Wanda says of her late husband, “He had the truest heart of love, like no other. He did so many acts of kindness that no one ever heard about. He was my hero. And I’m a better person because of him.”
Lonnie was reportedly delivering water to grocery stores at night in March, but it’s unclear if that’s how he contracted the coronavirus.
RIP Lonnie and our condolences to Wanda and Lonnie’s family, we also wish Wanda a speedy recovery.
