Love & Hip Hop Atlanta star, Benzino was shot on Saturday as he made his way to visit a friend but ended up seeing a funeral procession, which he realized was his mother’s funeral procession that morning. Raymond Scott, 48, professionally known as Benzino claims, he decided not to attend the funeral, as he knew there may be trouble, but I’m sure not the kind he was eventually caught up in. Instead, he said, he mourned her privately earlier Saturday at the funeral home where the wake was held. Benzino claims he was hoping to avoid any drama which began from an old family feud over money and the care of his mother, Mary Ann Scott.
Scott, a rapper and reality television personality also known by his stage name Benzino, said he was driving south on Route 3 to meet a friend in Plymouth when he happened upon his mother’s procession.
As I got to the beginning of the procession where the hearse was, the perpetrator rolled down a car window and started shooting and shooting. They wouldn’t let me in. I had blood all over me. I didn’t want to be around them. I felt like, I didn’t want any problems. I can love my mother and there doesn’t have to be any problems with family. I looked over, there was a car, and all I saw was a gun shooting at me, firing seven or eight shots. I was trying to duck and dodge, drive around it, maneuver the car, I was bleeding a lot. I was driving with my thumb in my shoulder to try to stop the bleeding.”
Benzino’s nephew, Gai Scott, 36, is due to be arraigned today on a charge of assault with intent to murder. Gai Scott is the son of Scott’s half-sister, Maureen Scott. Citing the ongoing investigation, Benzino only referred to his alleged shooter as the perpetrator, and would not name Gai Scott as the man who shot him, telling the Boston Herald, he preferred to let law enforcement handle the matter.
The Plymouth district attorney’s office has said that Scott was shot twice by his nephew, Gai Scott, as the two drove through Duxbury, in his upper arm and back.
Christopher Coughlin, who representing the accused, Gai Scott, said his client would plead not guilty to the charge of armed assault with intent to murder. Coughlin also indicated that defense attorneys may dispute Raymond Scott’s account of the incident. Interesting.
Her obituary reads:
She will be remembered for her vivacious personality, big heart and infectious smile. Wife of the late Guy H. Scott. Former companion of Edward DeJesus of Taunton. Devoted mother of Maureen Scott of Dorchester, Anita Scott-Wilson of Monroe, NC and Raymond Scott of Atlanta, GA. Cherished Nana of Gai Scott and Janiya Snape, Mycah and Keena Pilar Wilson, Rashaun, Coi, and Taj Scott and great-grandchildren Tafari and Amaya Love Scott. Beloved daughter of the late Manuel Lopes Fontes and Ella (Barros) Timas. Loving sister of Frances Gainey and her husband Walter of Brockton and the late Joseph Timas. Niece of Florence Miranda and Madeline Fernandes. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Although there is never any good reason to bring a gun to a funeral, whatever the reason Gai had to shoot his uncle it must have been really serious, especially as Mrs Scott was listed as his cherished Nana. Why would you shoot your cherished Nana’s son?
It’s rumored that in 2008 Benzino allowed his mother’s home to lapse and it was auctioned off and she was homeless for a short while, during which time he had 4 Miami condominiums. Also that he was allegedly having sex with a younger sister when she was 15 to the age of 18 until his father found out it, at the time he was 33. Which leads to the question why the hell wasn’t he arrested if this is true. He allegedly beat one of his children’s mother and put a gun to her head and kicked her out of their home with their child at 3am. This all allegedly happened a while ago, but is damaging and could be incentive for Benzino’s family to be at odds with him.
There will be a lot of bombshells during this trial. I think it’s very strange that Benzino decided to miss his mother’s funeral because of family issues. What are your thoughts? Post your comments below.
