Bond has been set at $5,000 for an East Texas grandmother accused of leaving her 5-month-old granddaughter in the car so she could watch a movie.
49-year-old Felicia Green was in 241st District Court today. She asked Judge Jack Skeen for a court-appointed attorney during her arraignment on a charge of child endangerment.
The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Carmike Cinemas movie theater on South Broadway in Tyler.
Police say Green was babysitting her granddaughter while the child’s mother was at work, and wanted to see a movie. She told police the baby was asleep, so she left her in the car.
Bystanders noticed the baby sleeping in her car seat and called police.
The Tyler Fire Department responded and were able to unlock the car and pull the sleeping child out. Police say she wasn’t hurt.
Carmike employees went from theater to theater looking for the child’s guardian, when Green approached them to say she was her grandmother.
The girl’s mother was called to pick her up.
Green was booked into the Smith County Jail, and is facing a charge of abandoning or endangering a child.
Police say CPS is investigating.
