Kim Kardashian’s Charity Move Infuriates Fans As She Donates A Mere 10% To The Philippines Victims
On Thursday, Kim Kardashian launched an Ebay sale of her personal effects to raise money for the victims in the Philippines. Though fans thought it was a sweet gesture at first, many were outraged after looking through the Ebay sale and seeing that Kim was only donating 10% to the victims. Kim was keeping 90% of the proceeds for herself. Typhoon Haiyan, known as Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines, is the second-deadliest Philippine typhoon on record and has so far claimed the lives of more than 4,000. The typhoon caused catastrophic destruction in the central Philippines, particularly on Samar Island and Leyte with many people left homeless and without access to clean drinking water. Kim posted the following to Twitter:
“Hi guys, this is a very special auction because a portion of the proceeds of my eBay auction are going to International Medical Corps, a nonprofit organization that provides critical health services on remote islands where families are struggling to access medical care and basic resources like food, clean drinking water and vital medications. The proceeds will go directly to the communities they’re serving in the Philippines and will help typhoon survivors get access to medical care and ultimately save lives,” she noted before adding, “My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by the typhoon. Check out my eBay auction here and support those who need our help in the Philippines. Xo.”
The sale ranges in price from featuring high fashion pieces like Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel to pieces from the Kardashian Kollection. Kim also uploaded several pictures of herself in the pieces for sale. Immediately fans fought back on Twitter calling Kim selfish and saying “do you REALLY need 90% profit from the eBay clothes you sell, giving just 10% to the Philippine typhoon charity? #absurd.” Kim was also compared to Victoria Beckham who donated boxes of high end clothing for free. Kim has a reported net worth of $40 million dollars. I think it is completely selfish of Kim because many of the items she is selling she receives for free. What are your thoughts?
