Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer Calvert has shown her daughter Aliannah’s struggles on the show. For four years she has traveled to multiple states to see top notch doctors with the need to find out why her daughter wasn’t reaching her developmental milestones. Leah gave birth to twin daughters, Aleeah and Aliannah Simms on “16 & Pregnant” with her then fiance turned ex-husband Corey Simms. For the first time Leah is opening up about the devastating diagnosis of an incurable form of muscular dystrophy that Aliannah “Ali” was diagnosed with. Leah says:
“We were scared because we didn’t know what her future was going to look like, but we always pushed for answers. We never gave up, and we never will. We’ll do everything we can to make sure Ali has the life that she needs. The disorder affects her respiratory system and progresses the older she gets. The bigger she gets and the more weight she gains, the harder it’ll be for her muscles to carry the weight.”
That means that one day Aliannah will require a wheelchair. Leah recently married Jeremy Calvert and the couple share a one-year-old daughter. In preparation, she and Jeremy moved and purchased a more wheelchair accessible home. Leah says that despite a preview for the new season of Teen Mom 2 where Jeremy threatens divorce, the couple are happy together.
She says: “This is his first marriage — he’s still learning you can’t throw that word around. We both know we’d never get a divorce. Both of us are too happy.”
Leah also said that she, Jeremy, and the twins’ father Corey have built a special bond dedicated to co-parenting and making sure Aliannah and Aleeah are happy and well cared for. She says: “Ali’s condition has brought us all extremely close together. We have to stay strong for Ali, and things are going good.”
