Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has been arrested by U.S. Marshals on an indictment for failing to register as a sex offender.
Kenneth Petty was in federal custody Wednesday after he turned himself over to the Marshals. Kenneth moved to California in July 2019, but according to law enforcement he was pulled over in Beverly Hills in November.
Beverly Hills Police Department made a traffic stop on the 15th November and determined he was a registered sex offender in the state of New York but had not registered in California as required.
According to TMZ, he was arrested and released on a $20,000 bond. The L.A. County District Attorney charged him for failing to register as a sex offender.
It appears he still didn’t check in after that because now the feds are in on the case. He was indicted in federal court for the same offense, failing to register as a sex offender.
Kenneth’s criminal record includes a 1995 conviction for first-degree attempted rape. He served almost 4 years in NY state prison for the crime and was required to register as a sex offender.
According to court records from Kenneth’s 1994 rape case, the 16-year-old victim explained that she was allegedly abducted and violently raped by Kenneth.
The female victim told police that on the 16th September, 1994 in Queens, NY, she was walking down the street when Kenneth came up behind her and “placed a hard circular object” against her back and “made a clicking sound.” The victim believed Kenneth had a handgun against her body, and he instructed her to “keep walking.”
The two walked to an address down the street, and she claims Kenneth forced her upstairs into his bedroom by pushing her from behind with what she believed to be a handgun.
Once inside Kenneth’s room, the victim claimed he “laid his weight on top, pinched her sides and squeezed her neck causing her to sustain bruises and pain.” She then claimed Petty “forced his penis” into her vagina.
The victim claims she tried to escape, but Kenneth “brandished a knife” and held it against her stomach, telling her “she could not leave.” The victim claims she eventually struck Petty with a plastic bottle and escaped.
She reported the incident to police, and that same day they responded to Kenneth’s home and arrested him. Police claim he questioned, “what am I being arrested for,” while claiming, “I didn’t do anything.”
When the police mentioned the girl, Kenneth told police he had not seen her that day, but then claimed he had seen her at the bus stop and had a conversation with her. He says after speaking with the girl, he just went home and fell asleep, but also admitted he had slept with the girl before.
Kenneth was charged with 5 crimes, rape in the 1st degree, sexual abuse in the 1st degree, unlawful imprisonment in the 2nd degree, assault in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.
He later pled down and was convicted of attempted rape in the 1st degree, and served 4 years in prison. Kenneth is a registered sex offender, and must regularly check in for updated location information and photos as a warning to the public.
If convicted on the federal charge for failure to register, Kenneth faces up to 10 years in prison.
Nicki Minaj and Kenneth got a marriage license in a Beverly Hills Courthouse to get a marriage license in July which is just around the time the couple moved to California.
Kenneth Petty just appeared in court and pled not guilty.
Prosecutors wanted Kenneth placed on house arrest, but his attorney objected and instead Petty is being required to wear an ankle monitor. He will also have a curfew.
Nicki Kenneth’s lawyer says he’s going to post $100,000 bond later today. Kenneth will also be under pretrial supervision and has already surrendered his passport. His travel will be restricted to Southern California.
Kenneth also can’t use drugs, even marijuana from legal dispensaries in L.A. He has another hearing scheduled for the 23rd March.
