Raven-Symone came out of the closet to Oprah Winfrey Sunday night, but made one thing very clear — she’s not down with putting a label on herself … and that includes being called African-American.
During Symone’s interview with the Big O … Raven spoke for the first time about her tweet celebrating the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage last year — and explained she’s in a relationship with a woman, but added, “I don’t want to be labeled gay, I want to be a human who loves humans.”
Raven continued, “I’m tired of being labeled, I’m an American. I’m not an African-American; I’m an American.”
Check out the video to hear her explain the African-American comment. It’s debatable … she’s clearly not trying to offend, but much of the Black community could take it as dissing her roots.
