Royce Reed Explains Why She Left Basketball Wives

We reported Basketball Wives star Royce Reed had a few choice words some of her former cast members. Here is the blog which she posted to her tumblr.

I had to post this blog on my own due to VH1 contacting me stating they had to take it down due to “someone” being “in their feelings”. But its cool. I’ve always be taught “A Hit Dog Will Holler!” As always, I thank them for posting it in the 1st place and giving me a chance to fulfill my love of writing … and NOT with a ghostwriter… Just saying. Anyways, here’s the unedited version of the blog! Enjoy and Happy New Year! xoxoxo

Well well well … It looks as if we’ve come to the end of another year. 2012 was full of ups and downs for me & I’m genuinely happy to have shared much of it with all of you. You’ve seen me truly in love and even dealing with heartbreak. You’ve seen me angry and you’ve seen me sad. You’ve seen me yearn for acceptance with my father and finally getting it. But most of all I can honestly say that this year has taught me so much about myself and changed me into a better person. With that said I’m going to answer many of the questions I’ve received and hopefully leave a lot in 2012.

1st … Many of you have asked about Dezmon and I. It’s been a rough ride. Sure, he made some mistakes, but we all do. Difference is, not everyone’s mistakes are in front of the world. We are still very close. I don’t know what the future holds for us but time will tell. He’s an awesome father and a good Man.

2nd … My dad and I still have our issues and everything cant be fixed overnight but I can gladly say we are a LOT better. I believe after we both watched ourselves on the show we realized how we deal with each other had to change. We try to spend more time actually listening to each other rather than yelling and its definitely helped. He’s a wonderful Dad, & a great Grandfather and I don’t know what I’d do without him in my life as well as my sons. That’s Braylon’s “Pop Pop” and he loves him to pieces.

3rd … My company, Fantashique Apprentice Dance Company in Orlando is doing extremely well. We went from having 17 members in May 2012 to 58 active members in December 2012. We have auditions January 5th and we estimate that we will be well over 100. Its a blessing to be able to work with these beautiful young ladies using dance as their talent, passion & outlet. I’m happy to say we are unlike most dance companies. We are also a mentoring program. We check instagram photos, Facebook and Twitter posts to make sure they’re age appropriate. In this day & age anything you put out there you can’t get back … but you can learn from … I know from experience. Follow my company on and on to watch the talented young ladies grow. Again to all interested, Auditions are January 5, 2013 from 12-4PM. For more information contact

Okay … the truth!

A. I’m honestly tired of people stating that Shaunie was over my paycheck or even my role on the show. This came out in interviews before the show aired so I’m not really sure why its being hidden now. The BBW Show idea was that of Tom Huffman, not Shaunie Oneal. Shaunie originally turned down the idea of BBW because she wanted to do her own show with her then husband Shaquille Oneal. That show was called “Love Shaq”. It never aired. Yes, Shaunie asked me if I would be interested but it was brought to me as “This guy Tom has an idea and wanted to know if you would be interested.” My relationship with Shaunie prior to this conversation was 1 in which I asked her advice on how to deal with a situation I was in. It had NOTHING to do with the show. I’m not sure when or why it became what it is today but all the rumors out there about me and her boyfriend, Allstar Wknd and ever her ex husband are 100% false and she knows it. I used to look up to her in the past but that ship has sailed. In even more blatant terms, however, Shaunie wasn’t there to sell the show, I was. I was the only cast member flown into LA to pitch the show to over 10 different stations with Tom because no one else wanted to be connected to a possible failure. Shaunie was NOT there. We got 6 offers back after those pitches and they (Shed Media) chose to go with VH1. So in more BASIC terms, I played a MAJOR role in the pitching of this show & Shaunie in no way, shape, or formed controlled my contract, paycheck, or anything of the sort. So thank you to Tom and Shed media for hiring me for this project. Also, the way the show was pitched is completely different than what it has become. We pitched the show as being positive and with goal oriented & career driven woman that also like to have fun while dealing with the stresses of their exes or spouses and life. Our common bond was Basketball and we all had a child/children. We knew we would have arguments as women but in the end we would all come together when needed. To compare the ORIGINAL idea to a show that’s out now, I’d have to say Hollywood Exes. Yes, the BBW brand has millions of viewers and has pulled in ratings but I have to admit I wish it would’ve taken a more positive route. I take part of the blame for that myself as I was a part of the show for 4 seasons. With some of the ladies going into a 5th season and swearing by positivity, I can’t help but look at the members that are gone when that statement is made. I also can’t help but to realize the demographic that watches this franchise most likely isn’t the same demographic that watches Hollywood Exes. However, I wish them the best.

B. I’ve been asked to do several interviews. Some I take part in, others I do not. When a question pertaining to the show is asked I merely say, I wish them the best but I’m extremely happy I’ve moved on. When asked about my former cast members, I state whom I still speak to but in no way do I speak negatively about anyone, until now. Evelyn, have several seats and watch Netflix. I reached out to you when you got head butted and I also hugged you at the reunion (Of course that wasn’t aired, too positive). For you to have been a part of a show that was supposed to “Fix Your Life” and you’re still broken is a problem. At this point I just realize you’re a lost cause. In the past I’d probably tell you to get a pair of gasoline drawls and go past Hell, but I digress. All your anger towards me is material. You speak on my clothes, but I own a house and 2 cars. You speak on my hair, but I can jump in the pool without worries or my mascara running. I’m naturally beautiful. :cue Phenomenal Woman poem: You stopped filming with me because I NEVER backed down to you. I never let you treat or speak to me the way you did to Suzie or Jennifer & you didn’t like it. I was raised to stand my ground & I never let you take it from under me. Period. If you would concentrate more on what’s important in life and the legacy you will leave behind you will be a much happier person. I do feel sorry for you at times. I wonder what and where you will be when this show is over and the checks stop coming. I do see that you’ve followed in my footsteps on a few things though such as Twitter, Blogging, Book Series, fitness, etc. I know its hard for you to say thank you so I’ll just say you’re welcome. We are all human, no one is perfect, but DAMN, at least TRY to be a decent human being.

C. I was NOT fired from BBW. I tried to leave Season 3 and Season 4 but was negotiated into staying. For Season 5, I refused to take part in the ignorance and drama on purpose so it was a mutual decision. When someone tells you things aren’t going to change regardless of the backlash, you have to step back and think about whats more important, your dignity or a supplemental paycheck. I chose my dignity and I’ve never been happier. Would I ever do another reality show, yes. Will it have drama, of course but it will be REAL and stem from actual events. I will never bite the hand that feeds me. I have thanked Shed Media and VH1 for giving me the opportunity to show the world who I really am. The good, the bad, & the ugly. At the end of the day (Jen voice) I still can’t dress by some standards & I hate having to do my hair unless its a ponytail. BUT, I’m Me and I love it!

D. Tami, I wish you the best. We haven’t spoken but I’m still rooting for you and your beautiful daughters. Suzie, despite the BS you get, you’re still cool in my book. Kenya, congrats on your successes and see you soon! Jenn, so happy we got past the mess and we still remain cool. Kesha, Love you always! Meeka, girl we had a rough ride but glad we’re still straight. Gloria, no issue with you and glad we let the drama go between us. Everyone else … 2 fingas!
To the ladies who are on these “reality shows.” I must ask 1 question. What example are you setting for young ladies today? Is it more important to have Red Bottoms than a degree? Is it cooler to accept physical abuse because of money? Better yet is your own self worth, respect & dignity less important than who you are underneath? Call me cliche’ but when my makeup is off, my hair is in a ponytail, & I’m merely wearing a T-Shirt & shorts I can STILL look in my parents face and hear the words “We’re proud of you & you were raised this way.” From Season 1 to Season 4 I went from booty shaking to doing stage plays in NYC. I’ve matured a lot & come a long way. I still have my haters & those who will judge me based off the mistakes I’ve made. That’s life. But if I die tomorrow, I can look back on the life I lived & say “I did that!” Hahaha

To all my fans, Thank you for following and being with me these past 3 years. I’ve grown a lot and I’m truly happy. My smile doesn’t come from material things and my relevancy doesn’t come from how often you see me on the internet via Paparazzi or hearsay. My smile comes from my FAMILY, my real FRIENDS, & my COMPANIES. What”s even more rewarding is the fact that I’ve been relatable to so many young girls who just needed 1 person to show them that its okay to just be who you are. With suicide on the rise I hope I reached at least 1 youth today who can now be glad to say “I don’t care what you say about me because I know who I am and I love myself.” I love all of you & whether I meet you or not just know I became who I am because I always thought of you and the image/legacy I would leave behind. With that said, Goodbye 2012 and if it’s God’s Will 2013 is MY year and here I come!!!

Well there you have it, every interesting. What are your thoughts? Post your comments below.
